Porcelain Fixed-Bridges in Pearland,TX

Porcelain Fixed-Bridges

A fixed bridge is a very effective method of replacing one or more missing teeth. It creates a literal “bridge” between the missing teeth and remaining teeth by using the teeth on either side of the gap as a foundation with the false tooth/teeth in between. The replacement tooth or teeth can be made of gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials.

Benefits of a Fixed-Bridge

By filling in missing teeth, fixed bridges can restore your smile, restore your ability to chew and speak properly, maintain the shape of your face, restore your bite, or prevent your remaining teeth from drifting out of position.

Porcelain bridges have the added advantage of having the appearance of natural teeth. They can be shaped to look like the original teeth and to fit comfortably within the bite pattern of the remaining teeth, but are durable enough to withstand normal tooth function.

The Fixed-Bridge Procedure

To have a dental bridge placed will usually take two dentist visits with our Pearland offices.

  • During the first visit, the adjacent teeth are prepared by recontouring them (removing a portion of the enamel) to allow room for a crown to be placed over them.
Then, an impression is made of the teeth, from which the bridge and crowns will be created. A temporary bridge will be placed to protect the exposed teeth and gums until the fixed bridge is ready.
  • The fixed bridge will be placed during the second visit after the temporary bridge has been removed. Your dentist will check and adjust the bridge for a proper fit. Depending on your case, getting the right fit may take more than one visit.

Maintaining Dental Bridges

Proper brushing, flossing, and regular dentist visits will extend the life of the dental bridge, which can last from five to over 15 years.
