Harmony Dental utilizes a variety of advanced technology in order to provide you with the highest level of care while maintaining your comfort. The importance of using advanced technology lies in the information that it can provide on the condition of a patient. The more detailed the information is, the more customized and precise the care can be.
This piece of technology is used to scan and store images of a patient’s teeth, to use for such things as dentures or implants. It consists of inserting a wand, similar to an electric toothbrush, into the patient’s mouth and guiding it around the patient’s teeth, taking digital images as it travels, as if a map is being created. This “map” or impression can then be sent to a lab to have dental prosthetics made with the highest accuracy possible.
Chances are, you’ve had x-rays taken while seated in the dentist’s chair. This probably consisted of uncomfortable contraptions being inserted into your mouth, which you had to hold while covered with a lead apron as the x-rays were being taken. The x-rays are used to reveal such possible problems as abscesses or cysts, bone loss, decay between the teeth, or developmental abnormalities.
Digital x-rays provide the same information, but with higher accuracy and less radiation than before. Additionally, instead of having the x-rays developed (and having to wait to do so), digital images are taken and stored.
In addition to the improved image/impression quality, resulting in better-fitting restorations, taking digital impressions is more comfortable than the previous method of taking impressions, which involved the use of multiple materials and occasionally more steps. Digital impressions also have a benefit in that they can be stored electronically, which results in more efficient record-keeping and is more eco-friendly.
